Garda Culture Media

Garda culture medium is a semi-solid culture medium which, due to its composition, enables Salmonella bacteria to strongly develop flagellar antigens.

Obtaining correct reactions of H flagellar antigens with anti-H antisera requires properly prepared semi-solid Garda culture medium. This involves selecting the appropriate agar concentration, which depends on the degree of agar cross-linking. For this reason, each batch of the medium should be checked using reference strains.

Garda semi-solid culture medium is prepared from certified ingredients and enables the growth of well-flagellated Salmonella bacteria. This is reflected by bacterial growth over the entire surface of the plate, which usually allows both phases of the flagellar antigen to be determined in biphasic strains.

To inhibit a very strongly developed phase and induce a weakly developed phase, a few drops of antiserum may be added to the medium — 6 drops per plate — using the antiserum with which the strain agglutinates very strongly.

1,5% Agar Culture Media

1,5% agar culture medium is a solid culture medium used in vitro for the identification of somatic antigens of Salmonella bacteria by slide agglutination. It is a ready-to-use growth medium for the cultivation of Salmonella bacteria, enabling the growth of smooth bacterial colonies. The composition of the medium supports the proper development of somatic antigens, which enables the preliminary serological identification of Salmonella strains.
